Day #14: Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Drinking enough water can be a full-time job. Not to mention, water can be so boring. What if I were to talk to you about the importance of drinking water? I may be able to change your perspective. Headache, muscle cramping, diarrhea, and dry skin are all signs of dehydration. Drinking water is one of the most important steps we can take in staying healthy. Here are some benefits of drinking water:

  • Improve your physical performance

  • Decrease constipation

  • Decrease headaches

  • Improve your skin

  • Improve your weight loss

  • Flush waste from your body

  • Regulate your body temperature

  • Improve brain function

So let's talk about caffeinated beverages. Does Iced tea and coffee count? No!! and here is the reason why. Caffeine is a diuretic (makes you pee more). So if you drink caffeine, you should drink another 8 oz of water to replenish your body. Do you find water boring? You can make your water exciting by adding fruit, herbs, or water enhancers. I even enjoy making flavored decaf green tea and throwing it over ice with some fresh herbs. Play around with it and find what hits the spot for you! Don't forget to add extra water to your day if you are sweating or get in a workout. Your body will thank you!

How much water should you get in a day? That depends on the person. Check out this easy chart to see how much water you need in a day. If tracking your daily water intake seems too overwhelming then listen to your body. Check your urine, pale means hydrated, dark color means drink up. If you are thirsty, then drink. Headache or not peeing frequently, then drink. Not sweating with your workout...drink. Remember, adding these small steps to your day will create a healthier happier you!
